The other day I was in a gym with my dad, a gym with speaker systems and a constant loop of pop songs, and it started playing 50 Cent’s In Da Club. My dad thoroughly enjoys being a miserable curmudgeon, and he immediately started bitching about today’s music like this being unlistenable dreck compared to good old classic ’70s hits.

Today’s? I told him that In Da Club was twenty years old. For twenty glorious, tranquil seconds, he lost the power of speech.

Same here? Text-speak like this hit its peak in the early 2000s. And this Tumblr screenshot looks like it was made in the early 2010s. It’s a 10yo screenshot of a then-10yo PSA. I know at least one parent who’d mistake this 20yo-stale time capsule for the latest hot goss.
